At Malo Dental Bogota, we offer various options for conventional orthodontics and clear aligner therapy, including fixed, removable, metal, and cosmetic treatments tailored to the specific needs of each patient.

Some patients present complex cases that require combining orthodontics with other dental treatments or surgical procedures. At Malo Dental BogotaColombia, we perform comprehensive, integrated treatments using advanced digital technology and a specialized multidisciplinary team to achieve functional, aesthetic, and predictable results in record time.

Schedule a Specialized Assessment

Orthodontic treatment with clear aligners  utilizes digitally designed, transparent, and removable splints to provide a more aesthetic, comfortable, and discreet experience. They can be removed for eating and brushing, which greatly simplifies oral hygiene and daily adaptation throughout the treatment.

Conventional orthodontic treatment with brackets utilizes fixed attachments bonded to the teeth to guide controlled and highly precise dental movements. We offer both metal and cosmetic bracket options adapted to different clinical requirements and personalized treatment plans.

I traveled from Florida for treatment at Malo Dental and overall it was an excllent experience. I was anxious from the start, but Dr. Valentina Rodriguez was very patient with me throughtout the entire process, from our first contact by WhatsApp through completion of phase one. Durning the intial exam, a cleaning and several filling replacments were suggested as extra care, which were recommended as part of improving my overall dental health. Dr. Sergio Trujillo performed the five extractions on the second day. I was nervous, but he did an excellent job. He was calm, steady, and communicated with me throughout the entire procedure, making sure I was comfortable. His skills and professionalism made a huge difference. The final step of this phase was fitting the mouthpice. It took several adjustments over two days to fit it. The mouthpice needs a little more adjustment and that will be completed when I return for phase two of four in several months.

I had a full-mouth dental implant procedure done at Malo Clinic Bogotá in May, with both arches treated, including multiple extractions and implant placement. It was a major decision for me, both medically and financially, and I did a lot of research before choosing where to go. I can honestly say I am extremely happy that I chose this clinic. The office is beautiful, modern, clean, and professional, but what stood out most was the people. Everyone I dealt with was kind, patient, and highly professional. Dr. Sergio Trujillo did my surgery and was excellent. It was a long and difficult procedure, and I felt I was in very capable hands the entire time. Dr. Linda also deserves a special mention. She spent an incredible amount of time working with me on my temporary teeth and was patient, thoughtful, and genuinely committed to getting things right. I also want to specifically thank David, the business manager. He helped guide me through the entire process, from the early questions and planning through the actual treatment trip. Traveling internationally for major dental work can feel overwhelming, but David was responsive, helpful, and made the process feel much less stressful. My recovery was not easy, which is expected with a procedure this large, but the clinic handled everything professionally and took great care of me. When I had an issue with one of the temporary teeth, they fixed it right away and made adjustments. I am still early in the process and currently have my temporary teeth, but based on my experience so far, I would gladly recommend Malo Clinic Bogotá to anyone considering high-quality full-arch implant treatment. I would have preferred to stay closer to home, but the quality of care, the professionalism, and the overall experience made the trip absolutely worthwhile.

My experience at Malo Dental was excellent. I’m so happy with the results — I can finally bite into food like normal people do AND actually chew properly. As an added bonus, my smile looks dazzling. See? 😁 The staff was so kind and caring throughout the whole process, and everything was efficient, professional, and spotless. They really helped put me at ease, especially Dr. Carlos and his soothing voice. I would absolutely come back again… except I'll likely never need to do so!

Frequently Asked Questions: Orthodontics

Who is the right specialist to perform orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment must be performed by a certified orthodontist. This specialized professional is responsible for diagnosing and correcting anomalies in teeth positioning and bite function. The specialist plans dental movements using clinical studies and digital technology to achieve functional, aesthetic, and stable long-term results.

What do I need to start orthodontic treatment?

The first step to starting orthodontic treatment is to undergo a specialized assessment, where the specialist evaluates teeth positioning, the bite, and the patient’s functional and aesthetic needs. To begin treatment, it is essential to have good oral health, including healthy gums and no active cavities or infections. In some cases, it may be necessary to perform preliminary hygiene procedures, oral rehabilitation, or complementary treatments before starting orthodontics.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

The duration of orthodontic treatment depends on the complexity of the case and the type of treatment chosen. On average, it can last between 12 and 24 months, although some patients require less time and other more advanced treatments can take longer. During your specialized assessment, a comprehensive diagnosis is made to estimate the approximate timeframe and plan dental movements in a personalized manner.

What is the difference between brackets and clear aligners?

Brackets are fixed systems bonded to the teeth that allow for controlled and highly precise dental movements. In contrast,  clear aligners are digitally designed, removable transparent splints that offer a more aesthetic and comfortable alternative. Both treatments aim to correct teeth positioning, but the choice depends on the clinical needs, habits, and goals of each patient.

Do clear aligners work the same as brackets?

Clear aligners can correct multiple dental alignment issues through personalized digital planning. However, not all cases are the same, and certain complex conditions may still require conventional braces or combined treatments. The appropriate choice depends on the diagnosis made by the specialist and the patient’s functional and aesthetic goals.

Does orthodontics hurt?

It is normal to feel slight pressure or sensitivity during the first few days after starting treatment or following routine adjustments. This sensation is typically temporary and is a normal part of the teeth movement process. Both conventional orthodontics and  clear aligners are engineered to perform progressive, controlled movements to ensure maximum comfort throughout the treatment.

At what age can orthodontic treatment be started?

Orthodontics can be performed on children, teenagers, and adults, depending on the individual needs of each patient. In many cases, an early assessment is recommended to detect anomalies in dental development and plan treatment opportunely. Today, an increasing number of adults choose to start orthodontic treatments to improve both the aesthetics and function of their smile.

What care should I take during orthodontic treatment?

During treatment, it is vital to maintain excellent oral hygiene, attend all scheduled follow-up appointments, and follow the specialist’s recommendations. Patients with fixed brackets should avoid very hard or sticky foods that could damage the components. For those using  clear aligners, it is important to wear them for the recommended daily duration and remove them only for eating and performing oral hygiene.

Can I get orthodontics if I have dental implants or crowns?

Yes, in many cases, it is perfectly possible to undergo orthodontic treatment if you have  dental implants, crowns, or prior restorations. Each case must be evaluated individually to determine treatment viability and correctly plan dental movements. A specialized diagnosis allows us to define the best alternative according to the patient’s specific oral conditions here in  BogotaColombia , ensuring optimal results in record time.
